Preparing for the Best You for 2019

30a New Year

We are wrapping up the 2018 year and getting ready for a new year on the Emerald Coast. You don’t have to be crazy about New Year’s Resolutions to make some goals for a better you. Each week, month, or year can be a new start to focusing on ways to improve your life. Instead of setting huge goals all year, start with some simple things that are easy to achieve. You can still add “move to the beach” if you want as well. Here are some of the things we will try to include each week and month this year.

Spend more time outside – We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Pristine beaches and clear blue-green waters attract people from all over year-round. Take advantage of the gorgeous sights. Walk along the beach, go for a swim, stay for a sunset – these are all ways to stop and appreciate the little things. If you’re stressed or having a bad day, getting outside is a guaranteed way to boost your mood!

Exercise – Exercise isn’t all about being the fittest or reaching your goal weight. For some, that can be overwhelming. Exercise is a great for your physical health as well as mental health. Clear your head at the gym or go for a run while putting all your responsibilities on hold. Try a yoga class or rent a stand-up paddle board. There are plenty of ways to get some exercise and have fun in the meantime.

Treat yourself – 30A has seemingly endless charming boutiques, art galleries, and jewelry shops. After spending money on everyone you know this holiday season, treat yourself! Enjoy a spa day or buy some new beach gear. Pick out something special at a jewelry store or just spend the day at the beach for alone time. You can’t pour from an empty cup so make sure you take care of yourself first.

Have a date night – When was the last time you and your partner went on a date? It doesn’t have to be a weekend getaway or a big excursion. Get a babysitter and have dinner at a popular 30A restaurant. Go see a movie or take a walk in Seaside. Get a couple’s massage or rent bikes together. Everyday life can get us in a rut. Take some time out of your busy schedule to spend and reconnect with your significant other.

Practice gratitude – Whether you are where you want to be or not, there will always be many reasons to be grateful. Start practicing gratitude by naming things you are grateful for on a daily basis. When you first wake up or right before bedtime, think of 3 things that day that you were grateful for. When you are consciously looking for the good and counting your blessings, it promotes a positive outlook. This is a great habit to start that will eventually become second nature to you.

These are some small things we are looking forward to including in our schedules throughout the year. You can still have the big goals, like a 30A vacation, but making progress each month is a great way to feel accomplished. Happy new year!
