Picnic by the Pool in a 30A Vacation Rental

30a picnic by the pool

Summer is here and your heading down to the beaches of South Walton for a week full of fun in the sun. You’ve booked a 30a vacation rental with beach access and pool. Whether it’s private or shared with the community, you’ll want to put that pool to use. Here are 5 tips to planning a family picnic by the pool.

First plan the time of day you’d like to spend at the pool. Perhaps you’d like to start at the beach in the morning and then head to the pool in the late afternoon or vice versa. The time of day you choose will dictate much about the menu.

Next create a simple menu easy to eat outdoors and by the pool. Light sandwiches, chips and dip are great for lunch. Hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings are dinner by the pool staples. Cold sides such as potato salad, coleslaw, chips and dip as well as fresh fruit will be refreshing on a hot summer day.

Staying hydrated is very important so include a plan for cold drinks. A cooler full of can sodas and beer for the adults can be easily enjoyed while in and out of the pool. Make sure to have plenty of ice and water as well. Keep it cold, refreshing and serve it in plastic so no broken glass will occur under bare feet!

Then make a shopping list. Include all your grocery items and picnic essentials such as condiments, paper products, a cooler, ice and beverages. Pick up a few fun flotation devices like noodles, rafts, loungers and tubes.

Plan for fun and games! Marco polo, Chicken Fights, Belly Flop Contest and my favorite, Pool Volleyball. These games will get everyone in the family, young or old, involved and in the pool. A playlist full of cool summer tunes will add to the fun!

Summer in South Walton is all about fun in the sun. Enjoy the beach and the pool in your 30a vacation rental.
